From Julie's Facebook page - 5 February 2014
I would like to take this time and space to honour Pete Seeger. His life and music demonstrated how music can raise political and cultural awareness.
Most music lifts the spirit, but folk music addresses inequality, injustice and the thirst for freedom. It does this in a special and powerful way. I will always be grateful to Pete Seeger for paving the way; he made it possible for those of us called protest singers to use our voices and songs to address the wrongs that scar our society today. He has provided the megaphone through which we can send our message. I met him at a party in the 60s and sang to him in Spanish. I treasure that memory.
From Julie's Facebook page - 6 December 2013:
The flag in my heart will fly at half mast today as Nelson Mandela is lain to rest. I find the words of Avaaz most appropriate. As follows:
"The truth is I find I can't quite say goodbye. Somehow I want to cling onto his spirit, his laughter, his joy, his fearlessness, his hope. We haven't seen many heroes like him lately and his passing makes me afraid to let go. But as his flame goes out in this world I feel a candle lit in my belly -- a passing of the torch, and a deep sense of responsibility to do my part to uphold his legacy and his principles."
In peace and love,
New album out now!
Julie has been in the studio putting together a collection of Goddess Songs taken from six of her previously recorded albums. Kathy Jones, who organises the Goddess Conference in Glastonbury, has been urging Julie to do this for some time.
Julie is thrilled that Freddie Miller has agreed to the use of two of her beautiful images for both the front and back cover of the album. It is called La Que Sabe (She Who Knows).
The album is now also available from the shop on this site.
